Obituary for J.P. "Jay" Rainey

Mr. J.P. “Jay” Rainey, resident of Palestine, Arkansas, departed this life on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Crestpark Nursing Home in Wynne at the age of 74. Jay was born in Forrest City on March 10, 1949, the son of John and Lula Mae (Rhynes) Rainey.

Jay worked as a mechanic at the city shop in Forrest City for more than 30 years, and he was of the Pentecostal faith. He enjoyed fishing and listening to country music.

Mr. Rainey was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Patricia Rainey-Ellis and Nancy Rainey; two brothers, Richard and James Smith; and a sister, Sally Cooper.

He is survived by a sister, Mary Hudson of Palestine; a multitude of nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023. No funeral service is planned.
